Dear Bruce,
The letter to superintendent Grimmel was indeed beautiful. Many of the
things in it are things we said too. As for instance the offer to teach
children teaches them trivial facts or skills at best at the cost of telling
them that they need a teacher to learn. Or that teaching them that mistakes
are bad only teaches children to fear the unknown and sets them up to fear
endeavor. There are many more wise things that Alter said which I agree with
whole heartedly.
