No doubt there would be some sterling exceptions, but most
voucher-supported schoolhouses would be either second-rate
institutions like the white-flight storefronts or (no doubt
proponderantly) church-based indoctrination centers.
I don't think that your conclusion is as inevitable as you paint it. I
believe that for the amount of money that we pay for the average schooling
for the average kid in the average school district we could fund many
interesting, diverse, and worthwhile schools. Sudbury, Highland, and other
democratic schools would surely benefit and many many more folks could afford
to start them (as well as other progressive, Montessori, etc. schools).
