Dear Sheri,

Whoa!

At Sudbury Valley, for many many years, we had a lot more boys than girls.
That has changed in the last few years -- it is almost 50/50.

But stories mean nothing. That is just stuff that happened! No one is
singled out for attention -- the whole onus for building their lives is on
the kids. Each kid can be what they can figure out how to be. This has a
wonderful equalizing effect, but you can't fight society totally: these kids
are in families, in the outside world, and often they have been in other
schools. Many stereoptypes come with them. We empower them by treating them
all like what they are, intelligent human beings -- they have to do the rest.
