The following is an excerpt from an Article by Jane Almon, "The Child: Play
and Development of the Young Child." - Great article for the defense of
Creative Play.
{Modern adults tend to down play the importance of creative play/ fantasy
play. Fanstasy seems to cotradict the accepted value of being rational and
logical in ones thinking. Reason and logic are an important part of human
thinking , but not the only part. The human mind is capable of many types of
thought, including creative imaginative thought. Ashely Montagu , The well
known American anthropologist says in his book Growing Young ( McGraw hill,
1983) that the childs fantasy play is a direct line of ascent to the
scientists thinking in the laboratory. Both the scientist and the child try
out new ideas in the spirit of" what if I do it this way" . The play of a
child is the basis for the creative thinking of an adult, Montagu says . He
adds that a scientist wants to be thought of as a person of imagination, not
a "fact grubber" .
